About Fil

Fil · /fil/

French for “thread”

How do we measure life?

In moments with family, friends or community? In the work we do?

Fil was founded by my mother and I. It is the product of three generations of stitching and craftwork. In our family, female entrepreneurship is part of tradition and of utmost importance within our close-knit and extraordinary community.

My mother, Hiba, taught me how to stitch, crochet and embroider as a child. We spent our long days in the mountains above Beirut crafting in silence, bonding over our sincere passion for the work at hand. The craftwork brought us joy, purpose and peace of mind.

We decided to turn our passion into a business, especially now with Lebanon’s worsening economic situation and people struggling to make a living and provide food at the table.

We wanted to create a brand not only to show our love, but also to support and give back to all the women whose crafts are underappreciated and underrepresented in modern consumer culture. We wanted to shed a contemporary light on age-old traditions.

This is a true grassroots project. The bags are made in our homes and five percent of the profits benefit local NGOs and those in need. Our packaging is eco-friendly, our materials sustainable, and most of our products are made-to-order to ensure thoughtful production.

Our sales base is in Miami, Florida, where I live with my husband and our children. Our production base is in Lebanon, where my mother and family live. As we grow as a business, we grow our team and offer employment opportunities to other talented women: our neighbors, the ladies of the villages, the quiet creatives behind our heritage.

Thank you for giving us a chance and beginning this journey with us.

XO,

Nancy & Hiba
